One of our greatest falls as men is not being able to see past ourselves. Being logical beings, having faith is something we say more than we do. I mean many of us are guilty of thinking our way out of situations.
To be honest most of the bible stories on faith are quite heroic, being faced with same situations I bet there ain't many Abrahams among us.
The week that just passed was one filled with lessons for me. I was faced with situations where after committing things to God, I still went ahead to make humanly possible plans. The thing I wanted came through and I questioned the strength of my faith in my mind. I felt ashamed the God I claim I love so much could not be given my entire trust.
When I was in secondary school, my family went through some financial crisis and I remembered that despite knowing how bad the situation at home was, I trusted my parents enough to provide the basic things we needed. Here am I, a Christian who ‘believes’ God’s love is deeper than that of my parents’ but I find it hard to trust in him like I did my parents in those days. Coincidentally, I stumbled on a note I made in church on faith. The emphasis was on understanding how deeply God loves us.
To be able to understand God’s love for us, we need to be able to see God in our mind’s eyes for who he is. The one that can’t bear to see us hurt, John 3:16 cannot be quoted enough. His love for us is so deep that even our sins can’t hold him back.
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Jeremiah 29:11 Holman Christian Standard Bible.
Understanding the depth of this love makes it easier to trust him. We need to build our faith on the foundation of God’s love and more than ever we have to stay in the consciousness of the love.
In the course of writing this down, I am also on a soul searching journey. I made a note to always remember that more than anything, God’s love is real and he wouldn’t want anything to hurt me. I made a note to always remind myself of all the beautiful ways the scriptures describe His love. Above all, I made a note to get beyond myself and allow for God to take control of things. Logic doesn’t always make sense afterall.
I wish you all a beautiful week.
