I guess this is one topic that some men do not know about and do not want to know about. However I think that all men should know about this and how it affects their wives. As your wives reach the age of 40, you better start preparing for some changes you would see in your wives.
It is advisable that men get acquainted with the effects of menopause in women so that they understand what their wives are going through.
First of all, what is menopause?
Menopause is defined as occurring 12 months after a woman's last menstrual period and marks the end of her menstrual cycles. Menopause can happen in your 40s or 50s. With menopause comes, some emotional and physical symptoms which are a result of ovaries beginning to shut down – oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone levels fluctuating, and changing. The symptoms include hot flashes and vaginal dryness. Some women feel irritable, anxious, forgetful, fatigued and may also experience lack of sexual desire and painful intercourse. There may also be sleep disturbances. The combination of these symptoms can cause anxiety or depression.
Here are seven things men should know about menopause so that you have a better relationship with your wives.
- It is biological and she cannot help it. It is not any woman's fault that she is going through menopause. It is not her. It is her hormones. Your job as a husband is to work with your wife to manage the effects
- Every woman experiences menopause differently. Do not compare your wife with another woman when it comes to menopause.
- Intercourse might become uncomfortable because of vaginal dryness. This is one of the major effects of menopause. This also means that women might not be too interested in sex as they used to be before this period. But don't be scared. It just means you might spend more time during foreplay. Ensure the vagina is fully lubricated before you go in. You have to be creative abut be patient.
- There might be weight gain. This is because metabolism is slower. So you need to work with your wife to ensure she keeps her figure by hitting the gym. You need to encourage her to keep healthy and fit.
- Menopause is not forever. Don't think that menopause will never end. It is just a transition period. It will surely end one day. Some say it can last up to eight years or so but most women feel their symptoms most acutely for only about two years.
She is still your wife despite the changes and continue to love her. Take it as a new adventure....
